PAULS VALLEY, OK — Surveillance footage has been released showing the moment Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore tackled an armed intruder before he could reach students.

We covered this story when it broke last week. If you missed it, you can read the full report here.

The video fills in details that weren’t in the initial reporting. Twenty-year-old former student Victor Hawkins walks into the school, racks his firearm, and begins pointing it at students.

That’s when Moore moves in.

More from USA Carry:

He tackles Hawkins and pins him to a bench, keeping control of the hand holding the gun throughout the struggle. At some point Hawkins drops the weapon. Moore keeps that hand pinned while a second faculty member steps in, picks up the gun, and removes it from the situation. Law enforcement arrived and took Hawkins into custody.

Moore took a gunshot to the leg during the struggle. No students were injured.

Watching the footage, what stands out is how the response unfolded as a team. Moore initiated contact and controlled the threat. Another staff member recognized the moment to act and secured the firearm. Neither one had to be told what to do.

That kind of response doesn’t happen by accident. It comes from thinking through scenarios before they happen — deciding in advance what you’re willing to do when a threat appears.

Moore is recovering from his injury. Hawkins remains in custody with a $1 million bond.
