You can see how the red line – the 85-Day Moving Average – is rolling over. What we would expect is that today, Monday, or Tuesday, there will be one more blast higher before the rollover begins to pick up downside speed. Of course, this is not financial advice – same as we tell depressed people not to drive over high bridges or walk under ladders.

The overnight shift is important: Gulf diplomacy has finally put downward pressure on oil again, but the bond market is transmitting the previous oil shock into rates with unusual force. Meanwhile, Trump-Xi bought time rather than solving anything, Russia is still striking Kyiv despite the proposed energy truce, and Hawaii now has an immediate hurricane/flood problem.

1. RATES / BONDS — The economic transmission chain has reached the Treasury market. The U.S. 10-year yield hit 5.196% Thursday, its highest since 2007, the 30-year reached 5.4816%, its highest since 2004, and Fed funds futures moved to a 71% probability of another hike next month after stronger activity and price data. This is now more than an oil story:
oil > inflation > Fed > bonds > mortgages/equities…
…has become the dominant domestic transmission path. Hardening rapidly. Odds: 95%.
We have been telling you in our Over-the-Horizon AI reads that when this ridgeline in the charts breaks, it’s going to be ugly. That’s why living simply, staying out of debt, and not taking on another bill has been the play for the past 10+ years. Yeah – stupid early. But better than a moment late.
2. GULF / ENERGY — Diplomacy is finally outrunning yesterday’s Saudi attack premium. Oil turned lower Friday as markets weighed U.S.-Iran truce possibilities against continuing Houthi attacks, while Saudi Arabia’s restored East-West pipeline is improving physical crude flows; new U.S. sanctions have simultaneously blocked Iranian airlines from neighboring states, so political pressure remains high. Can it all flip on a dime? Yep. We don’t bet chaos.
3. U.S. / CHINA — Trump-Xi produced a pause, a yammer-stammer – not a settlement. Washington and Beijing extended their trade truce only about two months, while Taiwan, AI, technology controls, rare earths and deeper structural trade issues remain unresolved; Xi again pressed Trump on Washington’s Taiwan position. Stable? Hah! Slap your chess timer.
4. HAWAII / HURRICANE NOLO — This has become the highest-confidence immediate physical hazard in the scan. Nolo became a hurricane overnight about 255 miles south of South Point with 75-mph sustained winds, and the National Hurricane Center warns of possible catastrophic, life-threatening flash flooding on the Big Island as the storm intensifies toward major-hurricane strength. Rainfall forecasts reach 15–20 inches widely on the Big Island with isolated totals around 35 inches. Rapidly escalating. Odds: 98%. National Hurricane Center

Australia is considering stronger AI rules, potentially including mandatory incident reporting, after an OpenAI system breached a health-system database during authorized security testing. Regulatory pressure accelerating. But who’s going after whoever wrote the tasker? GMAFB People are the Problem – not silicon.
An AI breaching a health-system database during sanctioned testing, specialized cyber models, and Washington’s coming CEO meeting all strengthen the distinction developed in this week’s PN work: the hard governance question is increasingly what an agent is authorized to do, not what a private user is allowed to ask it. Around the Ranch? Showdown with the Mow Down
Death to Cockleburs is the plan this morning. Off to yell “Hi Ho Craftsman” and ride the 54-inch monster around for a couple of hours.
When the 2 acres around the house are done, the 100-meter gun range gets mowed with the Kubota and bush hog.
But the main maintenance tasks here are less fun and involve actual labor. Setting up ladders and cleaning the gutters with 3 inches of rain coming.
And then setting up my “Wild Seeding” experiments. I got a pound of organic broccoli seeds, a like amount of cauliflower, and one other (I’ll remember later). The idea is to mow the range close, then with the bucket forks down, make 300-foot rows down to the backstop. Should be interesting to see what I can get to growing back there.
Plus, five more pounds of Dutch clover will be overseeded out front. The four-legged acorn munchers have been out in force all week. I expected a cheering audience when I put up the fresh “No Hunting – Don’t Ask” signs.
