MARION COUNTY, TX — A homeowner in rural Marion County shot a man who reportedly used a vehicle to forcibly enter his property and drove toward him in a threatening manner, authorities said.

According to the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on December 29, 2025, at approximately 6:40 p.m. Deputies received a 911 call from a property owner who stated he had shot a person after the individual rammed through his gate and drove a vehicle in his direction on the property.

The driver was airlifted to a hospital in Tyler, Texas, and is reported to be in stable condition. The identities of both individuals have not been released.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are actively investigating the incident. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed at this time.

In Texas, a vehicle used to threaten or cause harm can legally be classified as a deadly weapon. If an individual uses a vehicle to forcefully enter property and then drives directly at another person, that action can meet the legal threshold for an imminent threat of serious bodily injury or death. Under those circumstances, the use of deadly force may be justified under Texas self-defense statutes.

This incident serves as a reminder that vehicles, when used with intent to harm or intimidate, can pose lethal threats. Anyone facing such a threat must reasonably perceive an imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death to legally justify the use of deadly force in self-defense.
