FN America has unveiled the next generation of its legendary SCAR rifle lineup at SHOT Show 2026, alongside its first-ever purpose-built suppressors. The updated SCAR platform features more than two dozen performance improvements aimed at enhancing shootability, modularity, and suppressor compatibility—all while preserving the rifle’s iconic silhouette.

The upgraded SCAR family includes the SCAR 16S, 17S, 20S, and the previously released SCAR 15P pistol. Available calibers include 5.56x45mm, 7.62x51mm, 6.5 Creedmoor, and .300 Blackout. New color options include flat dark earth, black, and gray.

Key upgrades include a hydraulically buffered two-piece bolt carrier, designed to reduce felt recoil and improve follow-up shot speed and control. This new bolt carrier system is also backward compatible with legacy SCAR models and allows users to switch to a reciprocating version if desired. FN also extended the upper receiver by three inches and transitioned from a full Picatinny top rail to an M-LOK system at the 3, 6, and 9 o’clock positions for greater accessory mounting flexibility.

According to FN’s Cody Foster in a product overview at the show, the next-gen SCAR trigger module has been completely overhauled. It now features true ambidextrous controls, including bolt catch, mag release, and safety selector. The module accepts standard AR-style grips and is also backward compatible with previous SCAR platforms.

For shooters looking for optimal trigger feel, the SCAR 16S and 17S come with a refined single-stage trigger rated between 4.5 to 7 pounds, while the SCAR 20S includes a new two-stage trigger rated between 3.5 to 4.5 pounds. Additionally, the recontoured buttstock offers better ergonomics for canted shooting positions, and the rifles ship with a Mark duty vertical foregrip and suppressor-ready muzzle device.

Accompanying the SCAR rifles is the new FN QD suppressor line, including the QD556 and QD762 models. These forward-venting, low-backpressure suppressors are hub-mount compatible and purpose-built to pair with both legacy and next-generation SCAR rifles. Constructed from Inconel superalloy and manufactured using 3D-printing technology, the suppressors have passed rigorous 10,000-round endurance tests on fully automatic hosts, meeting and exceeding military SURG standards.

Each rifle will ship with a premium FN soft case, disassembly tool, and modular customization inserts.

This launch signals FN’s continued commitment to advancing its rifle platforms for both professional and civilian users. By integrating consumer feedback and modern manufacturing processes, FN has produced a SCAR platform that remains true to its roots while adapting to the evolving needs of today’s shooters.
