Episode 68 was filmed August 25th, flying Delta from Las Vegas to Chattanooga through Atlanta. Thorough check-in, and one Delta detail that went differently than usual.

Check-In at LAS

Declared firearms. Agent asked about lithium batteries, e-cigarettes, and power banks — none. Confirmed Chattanooga as my final destination. She also asked whether I was traveling with ammunition, whether everything was separate, and whether everything was unloaded. Yes on all three.

Signed and dated the form, and she signed after me. That’s how Delta does it. I mentioned the FedEx sleeve on my Condition 1 case and she got a kick out of it — said she liked it. She checked that there was a lock on each lock point and had me close it up.

Then she walked me through the wait. Hang out downstairs until 7:35, roughly 15 minutes. If she didn’t come get me, I could head straight to my gate up the escalator without checking back in. Set my timer, nobody came, headed to the gate.

Used the wait to talk about the USA Carry Travel Tags. Scan the QR code and it pulls up a page with my reciprocity maps, NFA forms, links to each airline’s firearm policy, and TSA’s firearm policy.

The real use case: you’re at an agent desk and they don’t know their own policy. Scan it and pull it up, or hand it to them and let them scan it. They come in a pack of two with a cable attachment. Pre-order is open now and I should have them in hand within about three weeks.

More from USA Carry:

Arrival in Chattanooga

Picked the bag up at the Delta ticketing desk. Small airport, so I waited a bit, but once I had it I was on my way. Worth noting: Delta has zip tied my bag before when it contained a firearm. This time they didn’t. That varies.

Final Thoughts

Delta’s process can be a little more thorough than some, and the agent walked through every step clearly. That’s how it should go.
