Key Takeaways

  • Episode 60 recounts traveling with a Condition 1 #179 3-Pistol lockbox from New Orleans to Las Vegas.
  • Checked in at MSY with a firearm declaration, confirming it was unloaded and putting the form inside the case.
  • Upon arrival in Las Vegas, the lockbox did not appear on the baggage carousel; instead, a baggage agent delivered it directly to me.
  • The process remains the same for retrieving the lockbox, regardless of whether it’s packed inside a bag or traveling alone.

Episode 60 was filmed May 28th, flying Southwest from New Orleans to Las Vegas. Simple trip, one small difference from the usual setup worth noting at pickup.

Check-In at MSY

Declared firearms. This time I was traveling with just a Condition 1 #179 3-Pistol lockbox on its own, not packed inside a piece of luggage. While filling out the form, I asked for my PNR (which is your confirmation number) and he said he’d put it on the form himself. He confirmed with me that the firearm was unloaded with no ammo, and I opened the case to put the declaration form inside and closed it back up.

Agent confirmed that if TSA needed access they’d call me. I waited my usual 15 minutes anyway. They didn’t call. Headed through security.

Arrival in Las Vegas

This is where traveling with a standalone case plays out differently. The lockbox doesn’t come out on the carousel with everyone else’s luggage. I waited for the bags to clear, then a Southwest baggage agent brought the case to the Southwest office. Showed my bag tag, he confirmed it, and handed it over. Locked and intact.

Final Thoughts

When the case is inside a bag it usually comes out on the carousel. When it’s on its own, usually, you’re heading to the office. Either way, same process to get there.
