Concealed Carry Holder FIGHTS BACK

ORLAND PARK, IL — A routine morning fuel stop turned into a high-stakes defensive encounter along a busy suburban retail corridor. At approximately 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, officers with the Orland Park Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Harlem Avenue and 151st Street following reports of gunfire during an attempted armed robbery.

The incident took place at a local, family-owned service station and was documented from multiple angles by the facility’s closed-circuit surveillance network.

The Approach and the Defensive Draw

Surveillance video reviewed by investigators shows a customer standing beside his vehicle routinely pumping fuel.^{Without warning, a masked individual walked across the lot, calmly approached the customer, and drew what appeared to be a handgun.}

Naseem Elmosa, whose family owns and operates the station, reviewed the security recordings and described the immediate escalation. “He was masked. It was clear on plain view sight that this person, he was armed, of course,” Elmosa said.

Rather than freezing or capitulating to the lethal threat, the customer reacted with split-second speed. Reaching behind his back, the citizen drew a handgun concealed in his waistband and discharged at least two defensive shots.

The camera captured the armed assailant dropping his gun to the pavement as the defensive rounds were fired. Secondary exterior footage showed the wounded suspect limping away across the property on foot.

Suspect Apprehended, Citizen Cleared

Orland Park Police units flooded the surrounding blocks and quickly located the wounded suspect hiding a short distance away. Paramedics treated the suspect at the scene before transporting him to a regional hospital for medical management.

Authorities confirmed that the customer who fired the defensive rounds holds a valid Illinois Concealed-Carry License (CCL).^{The citizen was completely uninjured during the exchange and remained on scene, cooperating fully with arriving detectives.}

“It’s just crazy to see here in Orland Park. It’s just scary for everybody around here, especially having a family-owned business. Never came across this issue before,” Elmosa added, noting relief that the customer possessed the training and tools necessary to protect himself.

Safety Tip: Pumping gas is one of the most common everyday tasks where drivers become completely vulnerable to transitional ambushes. Drivers frequently look down at the pump screen, stare at cellphones, or step between their open car door and the fuel port, effectively cutting off their peripheral vision and escape routes. When fueling, always keep your back to the vehicle so your visual field scans 180 degrees outward across the parking lot.
