PIERRE, SD (2-minute read) — A bill that would permit students to carry concealed firearms on South Dakota’s public college campuses is moving forward after receiving a 33-2 vote in the state Senate. The proposal, known as Senate Bill 100, originally had fewer restrictions but was revised to include additional safety measures before gaining the support of the state’s Board of Regents.

Currently, firearms are prohibited on public higher education campuses in South Dakota. However, under the amended bill, students who wish to carry a concealed firearm must first obtain an enhanced concealed carry permit.
