MADISON, WI (1-minute read) — A shooting occurred at Madison Abundant Life Christian School on Monday morning, resulting in multiple injuries and 3 fatalities, according to law enforcement officials.
The suspect, a student, was deceased at the scene. It is not known how the suspect died.
The incident was first reported around 11 a.m. when the Dane County Sheriff’s Office announced they were assisting Madison Police at the scene on East Buckeye Road. Authorities have asked the public to avoid the 4900 block of East Buckeye Road as they continue to investigate.
Multiple roads near the school remain closed, and officers have set up a reunification area at the SSM Health/Dean Clinic on Stoughton Road for families of the approximately 200 students who attend the school. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots, and a public safety alert was issued to nearby residents at approximately 11:20 a.m.
The school, situated on a 28-acre campus, serves students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Madison Police Department has scheduled a press briefing at 12:15 p.m. to provide more details on the incident. Nearby agencies, including Monona Police Department, are assisting in the response.
