MUNCIE, IN — A violent altercation at the Red Dog Saloon ended Tuesday night when a man allegedly assaulting multiple patrons and staff members was shot by one of the victims in an apparent act of self-defense.

According to a report by Fox 59, Muncie police responded to the scene around 8:43 p.m. after receiving calls about an individual attacking people inside the bar located on the 1600 block of W 23rd Street. When officers arrived, they found 53-year-old Larry Scott walking away from the scene with a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Court documents indicate that Scott initially punched a female employee across the bar, then proceeded to spit on her, another employee, and a customer. The situation escalated when Scott allegedly began wielding metal bar stools and chairs as weapons, hurling them with significant force. Four people were reportedly struck, with two suffering serious injuries, including a possible collapsed lung and broken ribs.

The attack reportedly ended when Scott was shot by one of the individuals he had assaulted. Details about the shooter’s identity and whether they held a concealed carry permit have not yet been released, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Scott faces multiple charges, including two counts of aggravated battery (Level 3 felony), four counts of battery with moderate injury and use of a deadly weapon (Level 5 felony), and three counts of battery involving bodily waste (Level 6 felony).

In situations like this, having a self-defense tool available can be the difference between further injury and stopping an ongoing assault. While the investigation continues, this case highlights the potential importance of lawful armed self-defense in response to sudden and violent threats.
