LITTLEFIELD, TX (2-minute read) — A shooting on Wednesday evening in Littlefield, Texas, has been ruled a case of self-defense, according to an official update from the Littlefield Police Department. The incident unfolded in the 700 block of East Waylon Jennings Boulevard, where officers responded to reports of gunfire.

Upon arriving, officers found a 35-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical personnel transported him to Lubbock for treatment. His injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening.

During the initial investigation, another man at the scene admitted to being the shooter. He told police he had fired in self-defense after being physically attacked without warning. Witness testimonies and surveillance video corroborated his account, showing that the shooter tried to avoid the confrontation before resorting to using his firearm.

Self-Defense Confirmed by Evidence

Littlefield Police reviewed multiple sources of evidence, including on-scene interviews and surveillance footage. The information consistently pointed to a justified use of force in response to an unprovoked attack. Investigators concluded that the shooter acted lawfully under Texas self-defense laws, which permit individuals to use deadly force when faced with a serious threat and no safe alternative exists.

The case is now being handed over to prosecutors for possible charges against the original aggressor—the man who was shot—for initiating the assault that triggered the defensive response.

In Texas, residents are granted strong protections under the “Stand Your Ground” and “Castle Doctrine” laws, especially when a person faces imminent bodily harm. Concealed carry license holders are advised to understand the conditions under which the use of deadly force is permitted.

Safety Tip: If you carry a firearm for self-defense, it’s essential to know the laws in your state. Always try to de-escalate a situation when possible, and only use your firearm as a last resort when facing a real threat to your safety.
