SUSQUEHANNA TOWNSHIP, PA — A suspected intruder was shot by a homeowner late Sunday night during a home invasion in the 4300 block of Mountainview Road, according to the Susquehanna Township Police Department.

The incident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on November 30 when police were dispatched to the residence following a 911 call about a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers secured the scene and rendered lifesaving aid to the suspect, later identified as Anthony Deimler of Harrisburg. Deimler was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

According to court documents cited by WGAL, Deimler allegedly entered the home through an open door and was discovered by a resident in the basement. Police say Deimler had taken some hot dogs before the confrontation. One of the residents, fearing for his safety, shot the intruder.

Police are requesting a warrant for Deimler on two counts of burglary and one count of loitering and prowling. The investigation remains ongoing with assistance from the Dauphin County Forensics Team. Authorities have stated that there is no continued threat to the public.

This incident highlights the unpredictable nature of home invasions and reinforces the importance of being prepared to protect oneself and others in a moment of crisis. While it’s crucial to avoid confrontation when possible, residents must be ready to respond decisively when faced with an imminent threat to their safety inside their own home. It also serves as a reminder that small actions—like locking doors—can be crucial in preventing a dangerous encounter before it starts.
